Not quite was I was hoping for October 5, 2009 A. M. Jones (Oregon) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I recently adopted a miniature Australian shepherd and purchased this book as an inexpensive way to add breed-specific information to my library. However, my dog was already five years old when I adopted her, and I really felt that this book was more geared towards customers who are adopting purebred puppies. There is limited information about the habits and personality of the breed, and although the health information was okay, I don't feel it was worth purchasing this book for that information alone. And it doesn't contain any helpful information about the miniature version of the breed.
Still, for the price, it has some useful and interesting information, and I did learn a couple of things. I doubt I will reference it often but I don't mind having it in my collection. However, if I were to only pick one book about this breed, I would definitely select something more comprehensive.
If you are getting a purebred puppy, though, I would definitely recommend this as a good starting point. I still wouldn't consider it to be very comprehensive, but it will give you some good pointers on what traits to look for, what to avoid, and how to care for your new puppy.
Aussies are different and need a different book November 26, 2008 Anita K. Wonder 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have books on dog training and behavior but it wasn't until I read this book that I reallized I now owned something entirely different from my previous pets. Now we have bonded even better and he's finally getting the idea of what I want. This is an extremely energetic breed. Couch potatoes get something else or suffer.
Great Info Source for Aussie Owners July 5, 2008 A. Taylor (North East Indiana) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book was amazing for people thinking about getting an Australian Shepherd or for those already with an Aussie. I found this book to be very detailed and full of really usful information in an easy to read and understand way. My husband and I both read the book and we think it helped us to understand our puppy better and better train/raise her.
Good overall December 9, 2007 K. Bustillos (Alaska, usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Has all the basic information you need to know about the breed. Very good book for the price.
Very useful book! April 7, 2007 S. Duprau 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've bought several Aussie books and this one is definately the quickest and most efficient read. For the price, I'd say its the best one available. It's written so everyone can understand and easily find what they're looking for
